Babies’ first food must be either breastfeeding or bottles with adapted milk sold at the chemist’s. Breastfeeding is better of course but you have maybe chosen bottles for different reasons. In that case, make sure you have chosen the best milk for your baby: normal, hypoallergenic or anti reflux milk, you will have a large choice according to his age and his health.
Pay attention: NEVER give almond milk or chestnuts milk to your child. These milks are NOT adapted: they contain too much proteins, which are dangerous for their kidneys and they are too rich in polyunsaturated fats, which slows down their mental development. Mother’s milk is extremely rich in cholesterol (saturated fats), which is essential for your baby’s mental’ s growth. Do not give cow milk before 2 years old.
After 6 months, you can start to introduce solid food. Start with vegetables, as it will be easier to introduce fruits later. This period is a way to open his taste to other flavours. This is a kind of learning period. Present him or her mashed steamed courgettes with a small potato. Do not add salt or others spices, just the taste of one vegetable at the time (pumpkins, broccolis, carrots, leaks, …) Carry on giving bottles of milk 4 to 5 times a day.
Do not give peppers or too many fibrous vegetables or too much cabbage, which are harmful for their digestive tract.
After 8 months, you can start to introduce proteins such as turkey, chicken or veal: the equivalent of a teaspoon mixed with the vegetables. Increase the quantity after 1-year-old but do not exceed 1 soupspoon. (A too large quantity of proteins is responsible of obesity).
Introduce gradually local and season fruits, always cooked, as it will reduce allergic reactions.
