It's important for parents to get involved and stay involved with the child at a young age. The child-parent interaction is what reinforces the exercise, in a way it becomes more than exercise and is more a physical-psychological learning experience for the child.
At this stage of their life they are exploring everything and starting to learn the basics of reading and writing. Exercise helps them concentrate and improve their coordination. Certain exercises can help improve their upper body strength and grip like hanging from bars at the park with adults help or exploring the climbing frames.
Throwing, catching and kicking will help develop their coordination which can also make it easier to start a sport. There are lots of types of exercise at this age but the most important factor is that it should be FUN. Taking your children swimming or teaching them to ride a bike the possibilities are endless.
